Woman abducted in car robbery in the Battlefords

RCMP are asking the public to help find a 33-year-old woman who went missing after an armed car robbery in North Battleford on Friday morning.

Around 5 a.m., Battlefords RCMP were alerted to the robbery on Railway Avenue East.

Immediate responders learned a man armed with a gun approached a red Pontiac Grand Prix, threatened the two women inside and stole the car, RCMP said in a news release.

One of the women was able to get out of the car without physical injury, but officers were unable to locate the other woman, Leanna Frenchman, and believe she remained inside the car, the release said.

“Investigators are concerned for her well-being and continue to actively investigate.”

Investigators believe Frenchman is still with the man who stole the car, and that they don’t know each other.

The car, a red 2007 Pontiac Grand Prix with Saskatchewan licence plate 186 NSA, was recovered on St. Laurent Drive in North Battleford around 10:30 a.m., police said in an updated release.

The suspect and Frenchman weren’t with the car. Officers are patrolling the area as they search for Frenchman.

“Saskatchewan RCMP is asking business owners and residents who witnessed suspicious activity or captured home surveillance video in the area of St. Laurent Drive in North Battleford this morning to contact police immediately. We are especially interested if your device captured the red Pontiac Grand Prix sometime this morning.”

Frenchman is described as 5′ 6″ tall, weighing 105 pounds. She has brown eyes, brown or blonde hair and a scar from the top of her lip to her nose.

The suspect is described as a man with a round-shaped face. He was seen wearing a baggy red sweater and jeans.
